Earlier this year the new Aeron chair by Herman Miller became available to order in the UK. The classic chair had been an iconic staple of design for over two decades, featuring in many films, TV series, offices and even being permanently displayed at the MOMA in New York.
What led Herman Miller to team up with Don Chadwick again was a desire to bring all the modern innovations into a classic design. The Aeron chair has been remastered to include ergonomic, functional, anthropometric, and environmental developments which are required in the modern workplace.
Some of the innovations on the new Aeron chair include a redesigned Posturefit lumbar support: whereas previously the Posturefit provided pelvic support in the lower back it can now be used to provide dual pelvic and lumbar support. Another option is to have a graduated mesh fabric instead of the Posturefit or lumbar attachments. The mesh features different zones to provide different support in different areas.
The mesh fabric has become more breathable, it provides better aeration and temperature control. The tilt mechanism now provides a smoother reclining with better trajectory - The end user is thus enabled to have optimal control of the chair and balance no matter how much the chair is reclined.
The Aeron chair still comes in three different sizes: A, B and C. This chart explains how to find what size is most suited to your height and weight:
