Aeron chairs and ergonomic chairs are proven to help improve posture and comfort in the workplace. We all spend a good proportion of our lives at work, so it’s vital we are comfortable and adopt a good posture to avoid aches and pains. Common symptoms caused by sitting in a poor-quality chair include backache, neck pain and headaches. This can affect productivity in the workplace, which can lead to absence. Aeron chairs from Back2 are a good investment, as they are proven to assist in a good posture in the workplace; here are some other tips to help increase comfort whilst you work.

1. Your chair: Try to ensure your hips are pushed back as far as possible into your ergonomic office chair. Your knees should be equal to, or slightly lower than your hips and your feet flat to the floor. The back of the chair should be around a 100°-110° reclined angle and your back should always be fully supported.

2. Your Keyboard: Ensure your keyboard is close to you so you’re not stretching and straining. Your Aeron chair should be close to your desk, with your keyboard directly in front of you. Centre the part of the keyboard you use the most with your body, and make sure it is at a comfortable height so that your arms and shoulders feel relaxed. It’s also best to tilt the keyboard tray so that your wrists and hands are levels.

3. Your Screen and Telephone: If your screen is badly positioned you can easily adopt a bad posture so try to make sure it's directly in front of you and at eye level. It should be centred directly in front of your keyboard. Make sure you’re about arm's length from your screen and position it so that you reduce glare. Your telephone should be within easy reach and in a position where you aren’t straining when you’re talking. Telephone stands or arms can help.

4. Take breaks: Once you have got yourself set up correctly by following the above steps, it’s vital that you take breaks at regular intervals - prolonged, static postures will inhibit blood circulation and this will have a negative impact on your body. Try and make time, just 1-2 minutes every half hour or so, to stretch out. For every hour at work 5-10 minutes away from your computer is healthy.
