How Does a Bed Wedge Help with Acid Reflux?
Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the oesophagus, causing the burning sensation commonly known as heartburn. Sleeping flat allows this to happen more easily. By elevating the head and chest at a gentle incline, a bed wedge uses gravity to keep stomach acid where it belongs, reducing the frequency and severity of reflux episodes overnight. A 2015 study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that a 6" elevation significantly reduced reflux in patients, the precise height at which the Putnams bed wedge is made.
