Sit-stand desks are possibly the workstations of the future. We get more and more enquiries and sales for these desks. Sometimes this is because people’s work is done better from a standing position whether this is all the time or just some of the time. But perhaps there are health benefits too.
An article on The Spokesman-Review website covers the health benefits of an entirely new type of desk which includes a slow-moving treadmill. Now, while we can all see the benefit of that, there are claims that there is a detrimental effect on our lives merely by sitting down to do our work. As the article explains:
“The issue of standing vs. sitting has been studied extensively. The American College of Sports Medicine published an article entitled “Medical Hazards of Prolonged Sitting.” The venerable Mayo Clinic offers unsettling research findings that explain the dangers of sedentary physiology. The American Cancer Society found that sitting too much cuts life expectancy.”
