Burn out at work, the intense tiredness that you feel every time you go to work is a real thing. According to YouGov, over half of the UK population have experienced some sort of burnout or anxiety.

Having work burnout is bad, but the worse thing is that most employees simply don’t know they are having burnout. For the most part, they just simply brush it off as mere tiredness and carry on working. This could further endanger their stress level. This is further intensified by the fact that fatigue is considered a taboo at work. This results in some people actively choosing to ignore their burnout state. To help you combat this serious issue, here are some of the most telling signs of burnout at work, as well as some tips for prevention.


The first step to fight burnout at work is to identify the symptoms. If you find yourself exhibiting these symptoms, it is important to talk to medical experts for further instructions.

- Chronic fatigue: Everyone gets tired once in a while, but usually you will feel better after getting proper rests. However, if your tiredness persists for a long period of time, and if you dread going to work altogether, then maybe you need to see medical experts.

- Insomnia: Insomnia often accompanies burnout at work, especially in the latter stage of the issue. In the earlier stages, insomnia might happen only once or twice per week, disrupting your sleep and leaving you tired. In the latter stages, this symptom gets so serious that you might find yourself not being able to sleep every night even though you are exhausted.

- Forgetfulness and impaired concentration: At the beginning of the burnout, you will find yourself forgetting a lot of things, and you cannot concentrate well when working. Later on, the situation gets worse and you might not be able to concentrate at all, leaving a lot of work piling up on your desk.

- Compulsive anger: It is one thing if you get angry when things don’t go your way, but it is another if you get irrationally angry at pretty much everything. Seek immediate assistance if your compulsive anger turns into violent thoughts.


Preventing burnout at work requires a lot of effort both from you and your loved ones. However, you can try these tips every day to stay one step ahead of getting burnout.

- Discuss your situation with a superior, they might be able to help

- Share your stories with a friend or family member so that you will not feel alone

- Try relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation, etc.

- Practice mindfulness at work

Working is a joy for many people, and we all take pride in our work, but it is important to be mindful of your mental well-being. Try not to overwork yourself, and take some time to enjoy life to avoid getting a burnout.
